Globe International was founded in 1973 by Baptist Pastor Ken Sumrall who had a vision to train and send an army of young people around the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“To assist those who have a God-given vision to implement that vision.” These words from J. Robert Bishop, Globe International’s first Director from 1976 to 2001, not only reflect Globe’s call to Kingdom service, but also our daily directive in helping others to achieve success in their purpose.
In the early 1970s, Globe was founded by a young Baptist pastor, Ken Sumrall. Pastor Sumrall attended a missionary conference where, in his words God touched him, “like liquid love for people all over the world.” Pastor Sumrall determined his church would be a “sending church” that would send missionaries to the nations. Soon after, he founded Globe International (first called Globe Missionary Evangelism) and appointed the church’s administrative pastor, J. Robert (Bob) Bishop, to be the founding Director. The goal was to raise up and send missionaries to the nations. Bob served Globe until 2001 and then asked Doug Gehman to take his place at the helm.
Globe’s vision continues… now serving the Body of Christ around the world to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and take the gospel across cultural boundaries to unreached people by encouraging them to accept Christ as Lord and Savior. With God’s leading, we want to empower disciples to plant churches that will continue to grow and multiply on their own.
We are experienced ministry leaders who share many decades of cross-cultural global service on multiple continents. We work collectively with the Globe Network, a community of like-minded sending agencies based in six countries on three continents. And the Network continues to grow. Every day we strive to fulfill God’s mission and spread His Word even further—to all nations.
We cannot fulfill God’s mission alone! Globe works alongside pastors, businessmen, and mission and ministry executives. They serve on Globe’s Board of Directors, they send their missionaries through Globe, they partner with us in support and encouragement of missionaries and in guiding their strategic work on the field.
At Globe, we are committed to serving the mission and evangelistic vision of hundreds of churches from many denominational and traditions. We strive to assist the Body of Christ in fulfilling the Great Commission by training, sending, and serving ministries and missionaries on foreign and domestic fields.
Organizationally, both the Leadership Team and Board ascribe to a Policy Governance model of governance. We partner with or are members of many other organizations, including the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Missio Nexus, and the Luis Palau Association and Next Generation Alliance, Beyond, Global Frontier Missions, the Jesus Film Project, and more.
At Globe International, we believe that every word of the Bible is true and without error. With this belief as our foundation, we know that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God who gave His life at Calvary for the sins of the world. But death did not defeat Him—He rose again three days later victorious over sin, death, and the grave.
Jesus then gave the commission to reach the world with His Gospel—the only way of salvation for mankind. We know that we have a secure home in heaven if we choose to accept Him. But those who refuse will be eternally lost.
As followers of Jesus, we strive to grow in our faith, study God’s Word, and be more like Jesus Christ and honor Him in every area of our lives.
We believe that the Gospel of Jesus is a final directive that has guided His Church ever since. At Globe, it is our desire to follow His Commission by spreading His Message to all nations until He returns.
