  • Mar 9 We are privileged to host a Nonprofit Preschool - “Pescaditos del Salvador” - to serve migrant Nicaraguan children during the coffee harvest. The children participate in Vacation Bible school activities to learn about Jesus.
  • Feb 2 We have settled into life here and even are getting a hang of the local dialect of the Spanish language. Our girls are finishing their schooling and have been extremely healthy (except for a few parasites here and there).

Bio

We are the Hutchins Family from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. We are John and Jill, and we have two daughters, Maddie and Mariela. Prior to serving full time in missions, John ran a general contracting company and was in the industry for 17 years, while Jill was a high school Spanish Teacher for 12 years.
We received our call from God to go into the mission field in 2011 and began to seek the Lord in His guidance as to where and what He would have us do. God specifically led us into the area of Support Ministries and Missions with a clear directive to assist existing ministries, invest in discipleship programs, and host short term mission teams. With a vision to disciple others in their walk with Christ, God led us to Atenas, Costa Rica, to assist in a ministry for poor migrants from Nicaragua.
We currently operate a Christian childcare center for migrant Nicaraguans named “Pescaditos del Salvador”.

Through this ministry we help provide care and a safe environment for migrant children while their parents work in the fields. In the process of following Christ through His calling in our lives, we have found many other ministry opportunities here outside of just the childcare center. We have taken advantage of opportunities to reach out to the migrant families by doing Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations as well as building relationships with the parents when they’re not working. As you follow and support us through the means available to you, we hope you will be able to share in the relationship with Christ that we have enjoyed, and ultimately find fulfillment in Him!

This journey for our family has been incredible. We have seen God continue to mold us into His servants. He has made evident that we will not be effective on our own motives and logic, but rather, only through obedience and surrender to the Lord’s voice. Our prayer is for God to polish the mirror that is our lives so we can better reflect who He is, so that others may know Him too! Whatever way God sees fit, we will follow. For now, we will be serving Him in Costa Rica!
