Joining Globe
Are you passionate about Jesus? Do you want to make an impact on the world? Are you eager to GO – maybe out to the local streets, or even a nation far, far away?
If “YES!” is your answer to these questions, then it’s a pretty good bet God is calling you to a life on mission!
That’s great, but before you GO, you have some preparations to do.
- Get active in your local church and home community. Serve in your church’s home and missions programs or get involved in your community. Gain as much experience – as a witness to what Jesus has done in your own life, as a good example of a Christ-follower, and as a volunteer serving another person’s vision – as you can. There is no better proving ground than your home church and your own community. Develop team and people skills. Take a few hits for Jesus at home first! Get a few scars, develop humility, and win some people to Christ from the safety of your home court. Ministry is all about people, so learn to work with them, even the difficult ones. Learn to work under authority, and with a team. Also, be a giver! Tithes and offerings are a crucial part of your learning to live by faith, so if you aren’t tithing and giving now, you will never be able to live by faith on the field. Don’t cheat on giving!
- Take a short-term missions trip. There is no substitute for exposure to another culture and another kind of people. I recommend you make several trips to different parts of the world. If money is an issue, join a team going close by – like another city or state, or a neighbor nation. Work with minorities and races different than your own. If your church is not doing mission trips, maybe you can help your pastor start a missions program. A short-term mission trip is a great way to evaluate your calling.
- Take bible and missions courses. Globe can recommend several affordable Bible knowledge programs that you can do online. Globe also offers a state-of-the-art missions training course – the Institute for Global Ministry – that you can take at our headquarters or online. There is no substitute for laying a good foundation in missions study. You need this knowledge and these skills! Bible knowledge, culture awareness issues, missions history, and missionary methods and strategy will give you a huge boost forward towards God’s purposes.
- Don’t wait! Give us a call! Let us walk with you in this entire time of preparation. It is better to go with a friend, so let us join you on the journey.
I look forward to walking with you on your path to a long and successful career in missionary service!
